I have been in financial services since 2022, specialising in insurance with a background in investments. Over that time, I’ve focused on building lasting relationships and providing advice that puts people first. Ruth commenced in the insurance industry as an Administration Manager for a Hamilton brokerage which followed on from a career in banking. Ruth moved into an adviser role helping Steven to grow their business from a solely Hamilton base to a national base operated out of Browns Bay in Auckland. Ruth is a member of Financial Advice NZ, and adheres to the association’s Code of Ethics. Ruth holds a Certificate in Financial Services – Level 5 and up-skills by attending training days and conferences. In 2023 Steven and Ruth sold their business, Steven Green & Associates Limited, and became part of the Insurance People family.

I joined Insurance People in 2004 after having worked in one of New Zealand’s leading insurers.
I specialise in claims, which gives me the opportunity to help make a real difference to people – sometimes
during the most difficult times in their lives.

Claims time is when people really see the value of their insurance I am here to make the process as
seamless as possible. Each claim is a memorable moment as we can touch someone’s life and see the
financial relief it makes so they can concentrate on what matters most – looking after themselves and
getting better.

Matt Church

Matt works his magic behind the scenes, managing the IT processes and
systems and making sure everything works seamlessly.

Originally from the UK, Matt holds a computer science degree and has
many years experience working in databases and processes in education,
healthcare and insurance industries.

He enjoys working with the advisers and keeping them up-to-date on the
latest technology. Matt is happily married to Katrina, an adviser and director
at Insurance People.

Many New Zealanders put insurance in the too hard basket – life is busy and often people don’t know where to go to get sound advice. One of the things I love about what I do is helping people make decisions that are right for them, their families and their business.

I started my career in insurance in 1998 as a tied adviser with what was then called Guardian Assurance. I realized fairly quickly the importance of impartial advice – ensuring the right product is placed rather than being tied to one insurer – and became an associate with a brokerage called Apex Advice Group.

After four years of what I call my ‘apprenticeship’, I then started my own firm Synergy Financial Solutions. In 2006 I merged my practice with Insurance People and have been managing and growing the team since then.

My team and I are passionate about insurance and giving advice that makes a real difference. Often the time that this is most evident is at claim – in fact, I consider my greatest achievement to be getting a $180,000 claim that a new
client had been battling with for 18 months paid within two days, simply by bringing the parties together in a room.

That is the difference a quality adviser who places a high value on relationships makes, and that’s what you’ll find with myself and my team at Insurance People.
